Steve Nash's New Life: Being a Dad and an Uber Driver

During his storied NBA career, which saw him win two regular season MVP titles in quick succession in 2005 and 2006, Steve Nash had the opportunity to rub shoulders with Goran Dragic for three years, from 2008 to 2011, when the Slovenian point guard arrived in the NBA, at the Suns. The two players have clearly kept a strong enough bond that Goran Dragic extended an invitation to his elder to participate in his jubilee this Saturday in Ljubljana.

Asked about his current situation, Steve Nash confirmed that he had drawn a line under his coaching career and that we probably wouldn't see him on the sidelines again for a while. Even if he doesn't deny his two-year stint in Brooklyn to launch the Irving-Durant era, the adventure didn't end very well, since Steve Nash was fired after 7 games at the start of the 2022-2023 season.

A cross on the coaching profession

The best player in the history of Canadian basketball is now thriving as a coach in a completely different discipline with a much less prestigious starting five (for now!) since he is primarily concerned with his five children.

“This is what I have in mind…”he said. “Coaching has been a great experience for me and my family. But I didn’t want to pursue coaching as a career. I just wanted to help this project. I don’t think coaching is necessary in my future. Right now, I’m really focused on how to have the biggest impact on my kids.”

Family coach!

With his characteristic sense of humour, Steve Nash spoke about his daily life away from the courts.. “Some call it being a dad, some call it being an Uber driver.”he continued, laughing.

“Mostly, I just wake the kids up in the morning, get them ready for school, take them. I take them to their practices, try to get them to work on their academic skills, sports skills, communication skills, etc. I guess I could say I’ve earned this opportunity to choose to give my kids as much attention as possible. At this point in my life, it’s really rewarding. That’s really what I’m focused on, but there are always projects and affiliations and partnerships and interesting things, so I always have something on the go.”

It's unclear whether Steve Nash also has to deal with brotherly bickering as he did when he was a coach in Brooklyn, with the emotional states of his stars. That's also the wonderful job of life coach for his children, in which the leader seems to take much more pleasure today.
