The Warriors have made the contract extension official Steve Kerr for two seasons and $35 million, making him the highest-paid coach in league history as of the 2024/25 season.
The culmination of long months of discussions with Joe Lacob and Mike Dunleavy Jr, owner and GM of the franchise, explained the Golden State coach, who was coming to the end of his contract this summer.
“These things always take time”, remember the four-time NBA champion. “I always wanted to continue, Joe Lacob also wanted to see me come back. We found a solution and I couldn't be more excited. »
A contract modeled on that of Stephen Curry
Two more years pushes it to 2026, like Stephen Curry's contract. “I am very comfortable with this two-year extension and so is Joe Lacob,” continues Steve Kerr. “We are in a unique situation, with one era ending and another arriving. We try to merge them and get the most out of them, this year and then the next. Let's continue our momentum for two years and then we'll see. »
Because with 30 victories for 27 defeats, the Warriors are only in ninth place in the Western Conference, far from the summits. But that doesn't bother the coach.
” It's pleasant. I'm really having fun this season, despite our short defeats sometimes. I really enjoy leading this group, the season is exciting, it's challenging, but it's enjoyable. »
