For the first time in his career, Steve Kerr lost in the playoffs against a team from the West. He also congratulated Darvin Ham ” for his incredible work ” this season. This is only Steve Kerr’s third defeat in the playoffs, and the first before the Finals.
“First of all, I want to congratulate the Lakers. They performed remarkably in this series. It’s a very, very great team! I want to congratulate Darvin and his staff. I thought they coached brilliantly on the show. »
Decisive Game 1 and 4
It was a real game of chess between the two coaches, and Darvin Ham therefore had the last word with the surprise start of Dennis Schroder in Game 6 instead of Jarred Vanderbilt. A “small ball” choice that paid off. But for Steve Kerr, the Lakers were simply superior and his Warriors did not have the level to retain their title.
” We had our chance… For me the series comes down to Game 1 and 4, and the Lakers dominated us at key moments in those two games. The difference is really made there. The best team won, and good luck to them for the future” thus explains the Bay technician.
A very complicated season for the Warriors
For Steve Kerr, there is no regret to have. The Warriors did not have the build to retain their title.
“There are no regrets, but it sucks to lose… That’s how it is, it’s the biggest competition in the world, and in the dressing room, there was this mixture of fatigue and disappointment. We were not a team capable of winning the title. If so, we would be in the next round. When you look at the season as a whole, you can see all the ups and downs. There were all kinds of things that happened and obstacles that affected us. But our group remained united and fought until the end and had a good run”.
After reaffirming his confidence in his “Big Three”, Steve Kerr pays tribute to his players.
“It’s been a long, tough season, but our guys have held on. Reaching the conference semifinals, when for much of the season we were adrift, shows the character of our group and how they pulled together. »
