Steve Kerr concedes failing to connect Warriors last season

Two months ago, Steve Kerr confirmed what many had felt watching the Warriors last season: something was broken, and no doubt the source of the problems was the incident between Draymond Green and Jordan Poole. With this punch of the first on the second, filmed and broadcast, before the start of the season.

“As soon as we lose confidence, and this was the case for us, then the whole process is more complicated”explained the coach of Golden State. “I can’t be any more direct than that. And there is nothing to hide: the incident between Draymond and Jordan, at the start of the season, played a role in this. It’s hard to imagine that it doesn’t have an impact on the team. »

Steve Kerr now takes responsibility and assumes that he has failed to raise the bar.

“I have to say that I feel like I failed last year to bond, a connection, in this group,” does he deliver for the Mercury News. “I took a lot of time this summer to reflect on last season and the things I could and should have done differently. »

The Warriors, beaten by the Lakers in the conference semifinals, failed to retain the title won in 2022. And now that Golden State has made a clear choice in extending Draymond Green and transferring Jordan Poole, the coach is eager to put that frustrating exercise behind him.

“I truly believe that defeat sometimes forces you to reassess the situation and I am looking forward to coming back next year with renewed focus, energy and spirit from the whole group, starting with me. »
