Stephon Castle continues to gain ground

Mitch Johnson, the interim coach of the Spurs, was not happy with his troops' first period against the Jazz. But there is no doubt that he liked the performance of Stephon Castle before the break.

The Spurs rookie had indeed scored 16 points, to second the 24 of Victor Wembanyama. The two young Spurs scored 40 of San Antonio's first 66 points.

His second period was less successful, with clumsiness and mistakes made. But with 23 points at 9/20 shooting, 5 assists and only one lost ball, he had his best game of the season in this victory, with the one against… Utah, last November 9 (23 points already).

“He is a mature young man who continues to show that he is ready for all this. He will continue to grow, making rookie mistakes, but his confidence and approach are unwavering.”, rejoices Mitch Johnson.

Stay confident despite fluctuating address

Especially when he finds the target from the start of the match. His first two 3-point attempts went in, so obviously that gives a boost.

“Everyone tells me that, even if it doesn’t fit, it shouldn’t affect my confidence”, explains Stephon Castle. “I have to be ready for the next one. But seeing the first shot go in, it’s clear that it gives you confidence. »

The playmaker has been a starter for eleven matches now, and in the last ten, he has always scored at least 10 points and is averaging 16.1 points and 5 assists over this sequence. Enough to place him among the best rookies of the season after a month of competition.
