“There is no progress”. Eric Gordon expressed his frustration from the first strained microphone on Saturday evening, after the new defeat against the Knicks (108-88), the 26th setback of the Rockets season marked by 24 lost balls!
The tension went down the next day and before tackling the Texas derby against the Mavericks, Stephen Silas wanted to talk to his shooter. A way for each party to empty their bag and give their feelings about the situation, in order to start again on a better basis. And above all not to rot the locker room…
“It’s part of this rebuilding process, and it won’t be an easy thing. There will be good times and bad times. But it is important that we do not let these things pass. At the end of the day, hopefully we’ve become more cohesive as a group.”, said Stephen Silas.
A much better face displayed against Dallas
The oldest Rockets player, where he arrived in 2016, Eric Gordon saw the Texas franchise’s status go from candidate for the title to resident of the Western Conference’s slums. A not necessarily obvious situation that the coach understands, even if his player is fully committed to this new “process”.
“We are all frustrated and we would like to see this reconstruction go faster and see it more concretely. When you don’t win as many matches as you would like, frustration sets in. It is not an easy process that we go through”recalled Stephen Silas, as diplomatic as possible.
The meeting between the two men was in any case beneficial with regard to the performance of the Rockets in Dallas on Monday evening. Much more applied in content, the Rockets cracked in the very last seconds of the match (111-106). Eric Gordon also seemed much more inspired, finishing the game with 19 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. There was no victory at the end, but there is no doubt that this match will serve more as a basis for work than the match lost against the Knicks.
“We have to focus on improving every day and playing hard”confided Kenyon Martin Jr, also in a desire to appease. “We are still learning. In every game, we have to be lenient with the youngsters and show understanding rather than feeling frustrated.”
