Stephen Curry also imagines himself as the owner of an NBA franchise

Michael Jordan was an inspiration and admiration for a generation of players. He then became one as a manager, becoming the majority owner of the Charlotte Hornets (formerly the Bobcats) from 2010 to 2023. Even if the success was not there in sport, MJ achieved an exceptional capital gain of nearly three billion dollars.

Enough to inspire today's superstars, like LeBron Jameswho has long expressed his desire to follow in the footsteps of Michael Jordan, with the possibility of participating in the creation of a franchise in Las Vegas and the goal of becoming the owner. In FranceTony Parker took the same path with brilliance by becoming a shareholder and then president of Asvel.

The idea is gaining ground

Tuesday, Stephen Curry has in turn spoken of similar ambitions for the rest of his career. Even though he says he remains focused on the game, the point guard is gradually starting to think about life after basketball and how he could continue to flourish. And the prospect of one day becoming the owner of an NBA franchise is slowly making its way…

“For me, it's definitely an option on the table. I think I could do a really good job helping maintain the quality of the NBA and do what it takes to lead a franchise to a championship.”, he told CNBC. “I know I still have a lot to accomplish on the field before I move on to other roles in the league.”

The importance of atmosphere and supervision

Stephen Curry has already thought about what kind of leader he wants to be, drawing inspiration from the environment owners Joe Lacob and Peter Guber have created at the Warriors, including putting the player at the center of the organization.

“It takes a necessary investment to create a first-class environment, so that we feel taken care of, and that allows us to play basketball at the highest level.”he added.

While waiting to see him hang up his boots, Stephen Curry remains focused on the court after having signed a one-year extension that ties him to Golden State until 2027. The executioner of the Blues in the final of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will then be 39 years old, and the time will come to think more seriously about a reconversion worthy of his legend.
