Stats & Highlights | The Knicks qualify, the Nets and Cavaliers fall by the wayside
November 29, 2023
The Knicks did well to win largely against the Hornets. Their victory coupled with a favorable “point average” allows them to qualify for the quarter-finals of the NBA tournament. The New Yorkers finished 2nd in their group B behind the Bucks, and benefited from a better points differential (+42) compared to teams with the same record (3 wins – 1 defeat).
This success for the Knicks bears the mark of Julius Randle’s big game, in a double “double-double” (25 points, 20 rebounds and 5 assists), supported by the contributions of the Immanuel Quickley – Josh Hart tandem, 40 points between them. The Hornets, deprived of LaMelo Ball, were led by rookie Brandon Miller (18 points).
In group A, where the Pacers were already qualified, the Cavs (3v-1d) of Donovan Mitchell (40 points and 11 rebounds) and Evan Mobley (17 points, 19 rebounds and 7 blocks) pulled out all the stops to crush the Hawks. But their big victory was not enough for them to overtake their tormentors from the last playoffs in terms of points difference (+29).
Similar atmosphere for the Nets who, in a hyper indecisive Group C, failed in 3rd place despite their success against the Raptors. Mikal Bridges (22 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists) and Spencer Dinwiddie (23 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists) would have needed to score a few additional baskets to qualify. “ It would have been nice to go to Las Vegas, but that’s how it is “, put Nic Claxton into perspective.
