Stats & Highlights | The Hawks at the buzzer, the pass of three for Orlando, 53 points for Joel Embiid
December 12, 2022
Sacred performance for a rookie: AJ Griffin already has two buzzer shots to his name! After Toronto, it’s Chicago that falls on a basket at the siren of the Atlanta rookie, in overtime.
On the Orlando side, we are smiling since this second success in a row against the Raptors is especially the third in a row and the franchise had not known that since February 2021!
As for Joel Embiid, he did not give details against the Hornets, with 53 points, his second outing with more than 50 units of the season.
New Orleans–Phoenix New York–Sacramento Detroit–LA Lakers Houston–Milwaukee
Orlando–Toronto: 111-99
The Raptors always have a hard time scoring from long range and against Orlando, they took 18 minutes to score an award-winning basket! The Magic therefore took control in the second quarter, and the Canadians will never have the answer to come back.
Franz Wagner and Paolo Banchero were still good, the first even scored 11 points in the last quarter and the Floridians signed a third victory. A first for them this season. Third defeat in four games for Toronto, however.
Gargantuan with 53 points, Joel Embiid made the difference for the first time with 15 points in the second quarter. The gap is there but the Hornets are still in the game, as they take advantage of offensive rebounds to give themselves second chances.
Plus, Kelly Oubre Jr. and Terry Rozier are invaluable in keeping Charlotte in the game. Except that in the last act, Joel Embiid starts again: 14 points in the last quarter to give victory to Philadelphia.
After losing the first quarter, the Hawks wake up in the second with an in-form Bogdan Bogdanovic, 17 points in the first period. The debates are balanced in third.
Then, in the last, DeMar DeRozan shows up with 12 points. But the Chicago guard misses a layup that would have given his teammates a point lead. In overtime, with three free throws, he thinks to offer the victory to his people. But on the last throw-in, with 0.5 to play, AJ Griffin manages to recover the ball and shoot in time, and Atlanta wins.
