Stats & Highlights | Portland continues and New York surprises
November 16, 2022
Not too many movements in the East, as in the West, after this small evening. It will be remembered all the same that the Blazers, almost complete, regain control of the Western Conference alone after their success against the Spurs, while the Jazz is marking time, after its 3rd defeat in a row, and its first at home. New York is the first to win in Salt Lake City, without Evan Fournier remaining on the bench.
Unleashed against the Nets, the Kings continue with a 4th victory in a row and they pass in the positive with 7 wins for 6 losses.
Still no Gary Payton II in Portland, but return of Jusuf Nurkic at the heart of the racket. The Bosnian had a very complicated evening because Jakob Poeltl signed his best career game with 31 points and 14 rebounds. In its wake, the Spurs led in the score for a long time before cracking in the home stretch. Blame it on Jerami Grant, a real metronome for the Blazers, but also on their former teammate Drew Eubanks. He scored 5 of his nine points in the “money time” to allow Portland to sign a 10-0 and take control (110-106). San Antonio will not recover.
Always as irregular, the Knicks win a reference victory by winning in Utah with 25 points from Jalen Brunson. This is no small feat since the Jazz had still not lost at home. It was through its defense that New York made the difference by managing to cut off the rapid play of Kelly Olynyk’s teammates. In attack, it’s Immanuel Quickley who brings his usual spark, and the Knicks pass a 24-6 to reverse the course of the match in the 4th quarter, and take a 14-point lead (107-93). Thanks to the Clarkson-Olynyk pair, the Jazz fell back below the 10-point gap (111-102) but Cam Reddish secured the victory on free throws. Note that Evan Fournier did not come into play…
