Spurs start their life without Victor Wembanyama with a victory

The space of a moment, the Texan supporters forgot the absence of Victor Wembanyama, victim of a “venous thrombosis of the right shoulder” and unavailable until the end of the season. At the end of the first quarter, the very promising Rookie Stephon Castle slammed a huge two-handed dunk to raise the Moody Center of Austin, the usual Texas Longhorns room.

The rest of the match, the public remained relatively calm, disappointed not to see his darling trample the prosecution. Dominators a major part of the meeting, the Spurs still played to be afraid in the “Money Time”, when Royce O'Naale (27 points) and the Suns returned to the score.

But overall, the men of Mitch Johnson have mastered their subject, counting up to 16 lengths ahead of the first half. “It's a team victory”underlines the interim coach of Spurs. “My players answered as we hoped: they were all professional and we make the efforts”.

Victorious of the Battle of the Rebound (44 to 38), the Spurs returned to De'Aaron Fox near Triple-Double (26 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists) to validate their 24th victory of the season. It is two less than the Suns, their opponents of the evening, but also of the second part of the season in the race for “play-in”.

To get closer even more, the teammates of “Wemby” will find the pistons, still in the Texan capital, this Friday evening.

What to remember

– Chris Paul, second best interceptor in the history of the NBA. He lacked one to go beyond Jason Kidd and it is now done. It is a new accomplishment for the future Hall of Famer, after having become the second best passer in the Grande League, in December. It is only preceded by the unbeatable John Stockton…

– Kevin during return to Austin. Well defended by Jeremy Sochan, “KD” delivered a rather correct match, with 22 points at 9/13 on shots, 5 rebounds and 2 assists in 38 minutes. Which did not prevent him from raising the tension with Chris Paul, just before half-time in front of his “old audience” in NCAA.

– 100%Biyombo Biyombo. A surprise holder in the absence of “Wemby”, the veteran did not disappoint with 8 points at 100% on shots, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 interception in 16 minutes. Victor Wembanyama injured, there is a good chance that he will win a fixed -term contract until the end of the season.
