Sports betting: Jontay Porter is not allowed to play abroad

The main protagonist in an illegal sports betting case, Jontay Porter will attempt to resume his career abroad. His lawyers have written a letter to the judge in charge of the case asking that Michael Porter Jr.'s brother be allowed to get his passport back and sign with Promitheas BC in Greece.

A demand rejected by the judge while the prosecutor's office saw no problem with it. Consequence: Jontay Porter is not expected to immediately travel to Europe to play in Greece and the Champions League.

In their letter, the former Raptors player's lawyers had specified that this situation would not have interfered with the ongoing investigation or his obligations, since the player could travel to the United States at any time. In addition, Jontay Porter had also planned to continue his program against his gambling addiction.

A hearing scheduled for mid-December

As a reminder, the player was suspended for life by the NBA for informing bettors of his health condition, then using an injury as a pretext to leave at least one game during the season. This allowed accomplices to win by betting on the fact that he would not reach certain statistical objectives.

Jontay Porter, who was saddled with large gambling debts, also bet on league games he did not play. Banned for life from the NBA, he pleaded guilty and is scheduled to be sentenced on December 18 in New York. He faces up to four years in prison.
