Spencer Dinwiddie joins Mavericks at fullback

Two weeks ago, we already reported the interest of Mavericks for a rookie at the point guard position. Marc Stein confirmed this a few hours ago by specifying that Spencer Dinwiddie And Dennis Smith Jr. were indeed part of the Texan franchise's leads.

In this case, both players have already been through Dallas. For Spencer Dinwiddie, it was between 2022 and 2023 (17.1 points, 4.9 assists, 3.1 rebounds) and his integration was a success. For Dennis Smith Jr, it was between 2017 and 2019 (14.5 points, 4.9 assists, 3.5 rebounds, 1.1 interception), but the arrival of Luka Doncic had got the better of his development in Texas.

In addition to the Dinwiddie/Smith Jr duo, Marc Stein indicated that Talen Horton-Tucker was also an option for the Mavericks in their “backcourt”. Certainly younger (23 years old) than Spencer Dinwiddie (31 years old) and Dennis Smith Jr. (26 years old), “THT” has the experience of an NBA title (in 2020 with the Lakers) and his margin of progression still seems interesting, despite his contrasting record at the Jazz (10.5 points, 3.6 assists, 2.9 rebounds).

It was still Spencer Dinwiddie who was best placed to return to Dallas, after his disappointing stint with the Lakers (6.8 points, 2.4 assists, 1.7 rebounds). The Lakers he had actually preferred to join despite interest from the Mavs, precisely.

Information confirmed this evening by The Athletic and ESPNwhich reveal that the 31-year-old point guard has agreed to a one-year contract in Texas, in order to provide support to the Kyrie Irving – Luka Doncic duo.
