Jalen Green had high expectations for this dunk contest which he saw as one of the highlights of his rookie season. But everything did not really go as planned for the back of the Rockets, especially on his first pass, during which his missed connections with his teammate Josh Christopher weighed him down.
It all started badly as the player was about to attempt his first dunk with… a smartphone around his neck, before being brought to his senses. Even if he ended up passing his two dunks, including a very nice inverted 360° while passing the ball between his legs, Jalen Green missed too many attempts (about ten).
“I missed too much to win. It was still fun. I am happy to have been able to go on the field. I enjoyed the moment”, did he declaredismissing Josh Christopher’s responsibility for his repeated failures. “There was no problem with Josh (Christopher). Nothing is his fault. Sometimes you miss, sometimes you succeed, especially when you try a dunk like that, it’s a real challenge. I just missed. It’s that simple. I just missed. I had the right height. I had the right power. I jumped. But it didn’t come back.”
His second dunk was credited with a nice 45 by the jury, but the score for his first dunk prevented him from continuing the adventure, leaving Obi Toppin to slip away to victory. Not one to dwell on failure, Jalen Green promised he would be back next season to try again and lift the trophy.
“I definitely need a second chance. I made a mistake. I have to come back next year. We will find a way to do better. But I will be there next year”he promised.
Hoping he can erase last night’s sad spectacle from memory…
