Despite lobbying from New Jersey, the Sixers will not leave Pennsylvania, and will remain in Philadelphia. This is what Cherelle Parker, the city's mayor, has just announced. on his X/Twitter account !
“As Mayor, I am speaking to you from my office at City Hall to make a very important announcement.” she explains thus. “I am proud to announce that I have made my decision and an agreement has been reached for our Sixers to stay home.”
“I truly believe this is the right deal for the people of Philadelphia. To the people of Chinatown, know that I hear you. We have the best Chinatown in America, and I am committed to supporting it. I will have much more to say in a formal presentation that will be available soon.”
Parker's focus is on Chinatown because that's where the biggest opposition to the Sixers' new arena came from. 76 Place at Market East is right next to the city's Chinatown, and residents are concerned about the negative impact the new arena will have.
Fears that the mayor of the City of Brotherly Love has finally dismissed, as pressure increased to validate the construction project, and for the Sixers to inaugurate their new arena in 2031.
