Sixers line up with Jazz proposal for Paul Reed

Paul Reed will not be the fourth interior of the Jazz. While the leaders of Utah had made him an offer of 23 million dollars over three years, ESPN announces that the Sixers decided to line up on it to keep their backup pivot. A decision that could cost the Sixers dearly in “luxury tax” since the Jazz had inserted a “poisoned” clause in the contract.

If the first year is guaranteed, the next two will be if the Sixers make the conference semifinals. But Philadelphia remains on five participations in the conference semi-finals in six years! There is therefore a good chance that Joel Embiid’s back-up will be under contract with the Sixers until 2026.

As ESPN recalls, the GM of Jazz, Justin Zanik, learned the lesson of Daryl Morey well because the first was Omer Asik’s agent when the second was GM of the Rockets, and had offered a poisoned “offer sheet” to the Turkish pivot to snatch it from the Bulls, who had not aligned. It was in 2012.

Four pivots at the Sixers!

Given Paul Reed’s performances last season, it’s still an interesting contract, but the Sixers are already in the red in terms of payroll, and the activation of the second and third years of Paul Reed’s contract could weigh on their possibilities of recruitment.

Next season, the Sixers will again be armored in the racket since Joel Embiid will have three linings: Paul Reed therefore, but also Montrezl Harrell and Mo Bamba.
