After cutting Charles Bassey, the Sixers had until January 10 to make a decision on whether or not to secure Paul Reed’s contract year in the 2022/23 season. But what they’ve seen so far has obviously been enough for them as the pivot saw his 1.7 million year guaranteed before the regular season even started.
Paul Reed had a pretty good second year with a rotation role in the playoffs last season. This season he will have to fight for playing time behind Joel Embiid and Montrezl Harrell.
The Sixers are therefore hopeful to see him continue his progress under their colors before making a decision again next summer. The club will in any case still have control over its future since Paul Reed will still be in his rookie contract, and he will no doubt be a “free agent” protected at the end of the campaign.
The Philadelphia 76ers have fully guaranteed F/C Paul Reed’s contract for the 2022-2023 season, sources tell ESPN.
