Seth Curry, the Mavs’ super pick?

What were the best moves of the offseason? With the extension of Kyrie Irving, the arrivals of Grant Williams, from Boston, of Richaun Holmes, out of the rotation in Sacramento, but also the return of Seth CurryDallas is well placed among the most inspired formations of the summer.

For JJ Redick, the best move of the summer was made by the Mavs, when they managed to bring back Seth Curry. The consultant explained that if Steph Curry’s little brother was a little less visible with the Nets last season, it is simply because he was not able to do the preparation in its entirety. His rating has dropped a little on the market, and it is the Texan franchise which has benefited.

“Seth had ankle surgery in May 2022, coming off the best season of his career. He averaged 15 points per game in Philadelphia, then just under 15 points per game in the 19 games he played in Brooklyn after the trade. he recalled. “He had ankle surgery, he came back after the season had already started, which is always difficult, not having the normal routine, training camp, the start of the season, pre -season, all that. He had a good season. The number of minutes has decreased. But I think he was never really himself.”

The profile to shine alongside the Doncic-Irving pair

JJ Redick also highlighted the intact shooting qualities of Seth Curry, and sees the veteran finding a place of choice within the Dallas attack, where the Doncic-Irving pair will focus attention.

“Last season, he still made 40.5% of his shots from 3-point range. The reason I like his return is that the last time he was in Dallas, in 19/20, he shot 45.2% for just over 12 points per game. It rose to 48.1% on “catch-and-shoot”. When you think about how this offense is going to work, primarily around the pick-and-roll and isolation, what Kyrie and Luka do, him being one of your snipers, they will find ways to use it.”

For JJ Redick, it is the offensive DNA that Dallas must find in order to do at least as well as in 2022, when the Mavericks reached the conference final.

“I don’t know if Curry will start, but I think he will help this team. Two years ago, when Dallas reached the Western Conference finals, it was mainly because of versatile defenders and outside shooting. They had an incredible run in terms of shooting percentage, but finished 8th in 3-point shooting. There will be a willingness to give the ball to Luka and Kyrie, while everyone else stretches the play. Seth will fit this team perfectly.”
