A little tour and then leaves? For his return to Europe after spending 15 years in the NBA, Serge Ibaka managed to complete his Germanic adventure by winning the title of German champion with Bayern Munich, winner of Alba Berlin three victories to one. Third best scorer and best rebounder of his team in the championship, the interior who will celebrate his 35th birthday in September also finished top scorer, best rebounder and blocker of his team in the Euroleague (12.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks on average).
What will happen next? While the first rumors tended to send him back to Real Madrid, where he played during the lockout of the 2011-2012 NBA season, the person concerned clarified the situation, affirming that these rumors were based on… wind.
” Of course not ! For me, it was just disappointing that these rumors came out while I was still in the playoffs.” he confidedwith a huge cigar on his lips. “I didn't like it. It seems like that’s the way things work in Europe.”
We don't really know more about what Serge Ibaka wants to do next in his career, whether at Bayern, in another team or another championship. The pivot, however, remains a safe bet in Europe. Now that the season has just ended in Germany, it will be up to him to weigh the options that will present themselves to him.
“I have received offers from other teams, but I haven’t decided yet,” he added. “I always prefer to finish things first before I start thinking about what’s going to come next.”
