Dennis Schroder and Bogdan Bogdanovic and their respective teammates will see Paris next summer, and they can thank Canada. By winning against Slovenia, the Canadians eliminated Slovenia from the World Cup, but also from the race for direct tickets to the 2024 Olympics. There were two left to distribute for European nations, and they therefore returned to the Germany and Serbia, World Cup semi-finalists.
At the end of the quarter-finals, we now know eight qualified for the Olympic Games. These are France (host country), Australia (Oceania), Japan (Asia), South Sudan (Africa), Germany, Serbia (Europe), the United States and of Canada (Americas).
Twenty-four countries for four places!
There are therefore four tickets left to collect for Paris, and they will be distributed during the pre-Olympic tournaments. We will have four pools with six nations, and the winner of each pool will go to the Olympics.
We know the names of these 24 nations, and they are Angola, Bosnia, Bahrain, Brazil, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Croatia, Egypt, Spain, Finland, Georgia, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, Montenegro, New Zealand, Philippines, Poland, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Slovenia.
A few notable absentees such as China, Turkey or Argentina.
