It's not this year that De’Anthony Melton will lose his label as a fragile player, because THE Warriors indicated that he was out for the entire season, following his injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
Initially it was reported that the full-back suffered a sprain and was out indefinitely, except it was decided that the best course of action was to proceed with surgery. This is obviously a big blow for Golden Statewhile Steve Kerr had recently (finally) found his starting five by starting the 26-year-old alongside Stephen Curry…
A possible “medical joker”?
Arriving this summer from Philadelphia, De'Anthony Melton averaged 10.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.2 steals (at 37% at 3-points) before his injury. He had already just returned from a back injury and, without him, it is Lindy Waters III who has since been promoted to starter by Steve Kerr.
Note that the Warriors will be able to get an envelope in the amount of 6.4 million dollars (or 50% of his annual salary) in order to compensate for the loss of their rear, incidentally a “free agent” next summer.
