Terrible news for the Sky (12v-22d) in the fight for the 8th and final place for the playoffs! Touched in the wrist against the Sparks Friday, Angel Reese is forced to end its season…
Co-favorite for the Rookie Of The Year trophy with her “enemy” Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese sees her dreams of a double-double record in a season vanish, but also those of a first participation in the playoffs.
“What a year!”, posted Angel Reese on social media SATURDAY. “I never imagined that the last basket of my rookie season would be a 3-pointer, but maybe it was God telling me to give the fans a taste of what they will see more of as a sophomore. I am emotional about my season ending with an injury, but I am also grateful for what is to come. Even though it is God’s timing and not mine, I can finally take a physical and mental break. God gives His toughest battles to His strongest soldiers.”
Coming soon to “Unrivaled”
The seventh overall pick in the draft, Angel Reese had a superb debut season with 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game, despite shooting 39%. The WNBA's top rebounder with the highest average in history, she set multiple records this season such as most games in a row with 20 or more rebounds and most double-doubles in a row.
This premature end to the season will prevent her from going for the double-double record in a season. She stops at 26, and Alyssa Thomas (28) will keep it one more season.
“Through it all, I've shown that I belong in this league, even when no one else believed I did.”Angel Reese wrote in her post. “All I ever wanted was to get into the WNBA and make an impact. I can confidently say that’s what I’ve done and will strive to continue to do so.”
Once she recovers, Angel Reese has confirmed that she plans to compete in Unrivaled, the new 3×3 league created by Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, which is set to launch in January.
