Smartwatches are loaded with sensors, and the most advanced ones are capable of monitoring sleep, taking body temperature, measuring blood oxygenation levels, or of course taking your pulse in real time. The best-selling model in the world, the Apple Watch has already helped save lives, and this weekend, it's Sean Elliott who can testify to this.
In a message posted on Instagramhis wife Claudia Zapata-Elliott reveals that the former Spurs winger was hospitalized after receiving an alert from his watch. While he was not suffering from any symptoms, Sean Elliott received a notification from his watch: irregular heartbeat. More precisely, the watch suspected a case of atrial fibrillation. Without treatment, this condition increases the risk of suffering a stroke or suffering from heart failure.
Transported to Methodist Healthcare in San Antonio, Elliott underwent a battery of tests, and doctors administered an electric shock (cardioversion) to restore a normal heart rhythm. Now 55, and a TV consultant for the Spurs, the former teammate of David Robinson and Tim Duncan is already a miracle worker, having resumed his career in 2000 after undergoing a kidney transplant the previous year.
