Scott Brooks and Nate McMillan arrive on the Lakers bench

After ten days of searching, and a few rejections, the Lakers have finally found two assistants to support JJ Redick. As expected, they are two experienced coaches since ESPN reveals that they are Nate McMillan and Scott Brooks. Between them, they have more than 1,200 NBA wins!

Former coach of the Thunder and the Wizards, Scott Brooks has just spent three years with the Blazers, as assistant to Chauncey Billups. As a head coach, his record remains remarkable with 12 seasons at the head of an NBA franchise, and 521 wins for 414 losses (56% wins). He led the Thunder to the NBA finals in 2012, and he was voted “Coach Of The Year” in 2010. At the head of the Wizards, Scott Brooks led the franchise to the playoffs three times in five years.

As for Nate McMillan, he has 760 wins in 1,428 games (53.2% success), and his last experience on a bench was in Atlanta, which he led to the conference final in 2021, before being fired in 2023 due, in particular, to major disagreements with Trae Young. We also remember that he was an assistant for Team USA and that he thus frequented LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

These two arrivals should put an end to the trail of Alvin Gentry, tipped Tuesday to be THE experienced coach capable of chaperoning JJ Redick.
