Rusty Andrew Wiggins

Away victories, a fiery Stephen Curry and newfound alchemy. The Warriors’ start to the season is very positive and very good with four wins in five matches. There is, basically, only one downside and it bears the name of a player: Andrew Wiggins.

The Canadian winger is not at all at his best, with only 11.4 points and 2.2 rebounds on average at 43% shooting success and a very ugly 16% at 3-pts. “There are a lot of things I can do better, that’s for sure. I didn’t do anything very well. I can improve everywhere”he concedes for the San Francisco Chronicle.

Perhaps more worrying, Andrew Wiggins hardly plays the last quarters. And when he has been on the floor for five matches, the Warriors have a “Net Rating” of -5.9 points (the opposing team scores 5.9 points more per 100 possessions), while, when he joins the bench, the Californians have a very good +26.5 points…

Stephen Curry thinks we’re nitpicking too much

“We’re all trying to find our own rhythm,” assures Gary Payton II. “Wiggins is an important player for us. He’s not at his best, but I’m not worried.” reassures Steve Kerr. “He helped us win the title two seasons ago, he’s been there for five years. We know what he can do and he will get through it. »

The skill partly returned against the Kings, with a 6/10 on the shoot. We are nevertheless still far from the level displayed during the 2022 playoffs. Not enough to make it a tragedy for Stephen Curry.

“It’s funny because when we win, when the team wins, especially away from home, there is always someone who tries to nitpick about what we can do better collectively and individually,” regrets the leader. “It was Klay Thompson at first, now it’s Wiggins. Either way, we don’t talk about it in the locker room. Everyone will be an asset at one point or another during the season. We won’t win anything if our guys aren’t good. »
