Russell Westbrook joins Nuggets on two-year deal

While his compatriots from Team USA open the Olympic Games in France, Russell Westbrook takes advantage of this to secure his future in the NBA, since The Athletic reports that he is signing a two-year contract with the Nuggets. For a total of $6.8 million. The second year of his contract is not guaranteed, however, as it will be a “player option”.

Michael Malone was waiting for a playmaker to relieve Jamal Murray and here he is with the 2017 MVP, just transferred by the Clippers then released by the Jazz. Denverhe will therefore come to take on a replacement role, towards which he has gradually moved over the past two years.

Having played for the Lakers and Clippers since 2022-23, Russell Westbrook will discover, with the Nuggets, his sixth franchise in the league after the Thunder, the Rockets, the Wizards and the two Los Angeles. As he approaches his 36th birthday, he is an experienced reinforcement for a team crowned champion in 2023 and which will try to return to the throne in 2025, after being eliminated in the second round of the last playoffs.
