Rudy Gay has not yet signed a guaranteed contract with the Warriors, which means that the 37-year-old winger will have to prove during training camp that he can help the team in the regular season and in the playoffs.
“I have to prove that I can be part of the rotation. And that doesn’t bother me. I got rid of my ego a long time ago. I am 37 years old. I’m just trying to win a title, so I’m ready to do whatever the coach needs.” explains the former player Grizzlies, Raptors, Kings, Spurs and Jazz.
Draymond Green’s injury could also help him prove that he deserves this 14th place.
“Rudy was excellent. He looks in good shape. His body is fine and he’s a pro. He’s been in the league a long time, so he knows everything that’s going on on the field. It’s obvious he’s a very talented player.” recognizes Steve Kerr, without coming forward. “We will see how it goes over the next few weeks. »
Rudy Gay is therefore far from assured of participating in Golden State’s campaign but his experience, his ability to play in the 4/5 positions while stretching the game are arguments that necessarily appeal to the Bay.
“I have already experienced too many times in my career”concludes Rudy Gay on the role of veteran within a rebuilding team. “If I stay here, it will be in a competitive team. Eighteen years is a long time in this business. A lot of young guys are more than ten years younger than younger in this team and it was worse last year… I just want to be a good player, capable of doing good things for this team. Things that can help them win. They didn’t reach that goal last year and I want to help them get back to the top of the mountain. »
