Rick Carlisle crossed everything he could cross while waiting for the results of the exams taken by Tyrese Haliburton after his fall which earned him a nice stretch and a big scare Monday evening against Boston. The relief at the announcement of the verdict was equal to his concern since the leader of the Pacers “ultimately” only suffered from a grade 1 strain in his left hamstring.
Before the match against Washington last night, the Indiana coach breathed, the absence of Tyrese Haliburton having to be limited to a few weeks while he feared a much longer unavailability.
“The news on Tyrese was the best we could have hoped for, considering what everyone saw. The way he fell, the way his legs twisted and everything else”, did he declare.
The progress of the injury will be closely monitored.
Rick Carlisle also recalled that the medical staff will re-evaluate his case in two weeks and that we will then know more about the real duration of his unavailability, depending on how his hamstring reacts.
“Let’s say this is the best possible scenario”he added about these first two weeks of absence. “It’s mother nature who decides. That will take time. There are ways to get things done as long as you don't go overboard. We will certainly do everything in our power.”
He also praised the attitude of Tyrese Haliburton by indicating that the latter would take part in the Pacers' next six-game road trip, in order to stay as close as possible to his group. As for life without his best player, Rick Carlisle hopes to be able to count on his density at position 1 to do the job occasionally.
“If you take one of the best players in the world out of your rotation, it will be different. That said, we have great depth at point guard with TJ McConnell and Andrew Nembhard. These two players have already experienced this type of situation with success. We will fight to get there”he concluded.
