Rick Carlisle blames himself so much

Why didn't the Pacers foul Jaylen Brown before he took his 3-pointer in the final seconds of the 4th quarter? For Rick Carlisle, it was simply too dangerous. He had indeed asked his players to make a mistake, but… Pascal Siakam did not have time, and instead, he put his hands behind his back to avoid making a mistake on the shot.

“Brown took the ball and found himself facing him, and Pascal preferred not to touch him” explains the Pacers coach. “I realize that it was probably the right decision to make. We cannot take the risk of ending up with a 4-point action.”

On the other hand, Rick Carlisle really blames himself for the action which precedes this shoot by Jaylen Brown.

After Jayson Tatum's foul, the Pacers chose to play the throw-in in their camp, instead of taking a time-out. There were then ten seconds left to play. And Andrew Nembhard will miss his pass to Pascal Siakam on the throw-in, well pressed by Jaylen Brown, to give the ball back to the Celtics.

Tyrese Haliburton clears his coach

“This defeat is entirely for me” blurted Rick Carlisle. “With ten seconds left in regulation, we should have just taken a timeout. We would have advanced in their court, and found a way to put the ball in play, and take one or two free throws to finish the game. »

An analysis that Tyrese Haliburton does not share. “It's not because of him… I lost two balls which, in my opinion, cost us the match. I know he's trying to protect us, but it's more my fault than his. »
