Last season, the Warriors tried to recruit LeBron James in the final moments before the trade deadline. Joe Lacob, the owner of the Golden State franchise, had contacted Jeanie Buss, his counterpart at the Lakers, when Mike Dunleavy Jr., the Warriors GM, had spoken with Los Angeles GM Rob Pelinka.
But both leaders will get the same answer from Rich Paul, the agent of the “King”: a “no”. And even the intervention of Draymond Green, friend of LeBron James and player also represented by Rich Paul, with a text message for his agent did not work.
It must be said that, a week before the trade deadline, the agent had announced his intentions: “LeBron James will not be traded.” And now we know, thanks to Marc Steinwhy the agent refused to allow this transfer to the Warriors to take place.
Rich Paul reportedly didn't want the three-time Olympic champion to team up with Stephen Curry to avoid potential criticism that would come his way. Teaming up with point guard Klay Thompson and Draymond Green — as Kevin Durant did — would likely have been seen as an easy way out, even if the Warriors aren't as dominant as they were in the mid-2010s.
Yet perhaps now that the Paris Olympics are over and the pairing of LeBron James and Stephen Curry has been spectacular, many of those who would have criticized the choice last February would now like to see him back in the NBA…
