Return to the negotiating table for Luke Kennard and the Grizzlies

After a big year of struggle, the Grizzlies are eager to work again with ambition on the upcoming season. After the Draft, where they selected the immense Zach Edey, it is still time for adjustments in order to build the best possible team around Ja Morant for 2024-2025.

While one might think that Luke Kennard would have a place in Taylor Jenkins' future system, the Grizzlies ultimately declined the last year's option at 14.8 million for their shooting guard. But this decision would not, however, call into question the interest of the Tennessee franchise for its player recovered in February 2023 from the Clippers.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the two parties would in fact be determined to resume discussions as soon as the “free agency” opens to find a “restructured” deal, undoubtedly spread over several years, more advantageous in the long term for the player, and financially in the short term for Memphis. Clearly, we should expect Kennard to extend for two or three years, at a salary of less than $14.8 million.
