Top scorer in the Commissioner’s Cup final earlier this week, Marine Johannes keeps going as tonight she equaled her season high with 18 points in Liberty’s win at Phoenix. A great success (85-63) which confirms that the New Yorkers are in sparkling form in this final stretch with 12 wins in 14 matches! Leader of the Eastern Conference, the Liberty has a record of 25 wins for 7 losses, or 78% of victories.
Faced with a Mercury deprived of Brittney Griner, placed in quarantine, the Liberty made the difference at the start of the 3rd quarter with a 16-5 to take a 16-point lead (59-43), and lead 75-54 in start of the last quarter. Before that, Johannès had stood out in the first half by scoring 14 of her 18 points, to support Betnijah Laney (22 points) and Sabrina Ionescu (18 points).
Less visible than last season, Johannes is struggling to chain performances, and we see that her two matches at 18 points this season were when she played 28 minutes or more.
