Raptors boss re-elected chairman of the board of owners

Stability at the top of the Major League. The NBA has just announced the re-election of Larry Tanenbaum at the head of the “Board of Governors”, the council of owners, which discusses and validates the directions set by Adam Silver and his team.

The head of the Toronto Raptors, and more broadly of Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment (MLSE), has held this position since 2017. The new rules in force in the league now provide for two-year terms. The leader was unanimously elected in 2022 by the other owners.

The first Canadian to hold the position, the 79-year-old businessman was the main force behind the creation of the Raptors franchise in 1995.

The executive, who made his fortune in construction and was awarded the Order of Canada in 2007, is now spearheading the launch of a WNBA franchise in Toronto in 2026. The new team will be owned by Larry Tanenbaum's Kilmer Sports Venture Group.

His nomination will probably not make James Dolan jump for joy, who had pointed out the link between Adam Silver and Larry Tanenbaum against the backdrop of the “spy assistant affair” between the Knicks and the Raptors.

Larry Tanenbaum is Adam Silver's boss and has control over and influence over Silver's continued employment and salary. Larry Tanenbaum has been described as a close ally of Commissioner Adam Silver. Adam Silver himself has described Larry Tanenbaum as 'not only my boss as Chairman of the Board of Governors, but is also a role model in my life' “, denounced the owner of the Knicks, demanding more than 10 million dollars.
