On Monday night, Doc Rivers wasn't the only former Celtic to visit TD Garden, as he was accompanied by Rajon Rondo.
Since the preseason, the former Boston leader has joined the Bucks staff. It's not in a full-time role, nor as an assistant, but the two-time NBA champion has agreed to learn the trade with his former coach.
“I knew he was ready to coach if he wanted to” explains Doc Rivers about his former player. “He’s clearly the smartest player I’ve coached. It took me two years to try to convince him. You know, he tested the waters a little, he looked a little…”
Setting up a calendar
If Rajon Rondo is present part-time, and he hesitates to get totally involved, it is because, like Carmelo Anthony and other former players, he is brooding over his 12-year-old son Pierre.
“He has a son, and it’s not that he didn’t want to be a coach,” confirms Doc Rivers. “His son is a very talented player and he works with him. We're working out a schedule to try to give him enough time to be there and to be with us.”
Doc Rivers is in any case already satisfied to have put his foot in the door. “The only thing I can tell you is that during training camp he got hooked and he loves it.”concludes the “head coach”.“It’s in him and once it’s in you, you can’t get rid of it.” So that was my goal. »
