Rajon Rondo avoids jail time

Rajon Rondo had a court date on Tuesday. The leader was arrested in Indiana on January 28 after a traffic violation that ultimately led to the discovery of a firearm and marijuana in his vehicle by police. The 37-year-old former player was facing a six-month prison sentence after being the subject of a protection order obtained by the mother of his children in 2022 and again in 2023. The latter had accused him of threatening her with a firearm.

To get away with it, Rajon Rondo has decided to plead guilty when he appeared before the judge. A wise choice since his prison sentence was suspended and will be replaced by a six-month probation sentence, which means that he will be able to remain free, but under judicial supervision. As part of this “agreement”, the charges relating to his drug possession were dropped.

A future as an assistant?

Rajon Rondo had to show his behavioral credentials to avoid going to jail. Following the protection orders declared against him, the point guard had to undergo anger management sessions and a mental health evaluation to ensure that the case ends in 2023.

Since then, he had approached two of his former teams, the University of Kentucky, and more recently the Lakers, where he could bounce back as an assistant. A way of showing the judges his aspiration to find the “right path” after this misconduct dating back to last January.
