Race to the MVP: the American press votes Jayson Tatum

HAS ESPN, for six years, we no longer wait for the month of May to survey the American press and find out the results of the vote for the MVP. Our colleagues thus contacted 100 journalists, who cover 28 of the 30 NBA franchises, and they asked them for a first score on the race for the MVP, with their Top 5 after two months of competition.

Last season, at the same time, it was Stephen Curry who came by far in the lead with 94 1st places out of 100 possible. Finally, at the time of the end-of-season votes, the Warriors point guard will finish 8th far behind Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid. It is to say if the truth of the beginning of the season is not that of spring.

Anyway, for now it’s Jayson Tatum who tops the poll with 47 1st places out of a possible 100. The Celtics winger therefore does not obtain the majority of the ballot, but he is ahead of Giannis Antetokounmpo (36 1st place) and Luka Doncic (10). Stephen Curry and Nikola Jokic follow. This “major five” is the only one to receive 1st place.

Note that no player is present on all the ballots, but also that the new generation appears. With five 3rd places each, Ja Morant and Zion Williamson are 6th and 8th in this “race for the MVP”.
