Pressure cooker Julius Randle is smoking again

After a fantastic 2020/21 season marked by an MIP title, his first All-Star Game selection and a place in the All-NBA Second Team, Julisu Randle followed up with a bad 2021/22 season, with a level of play down sharply, and a strained relationship with his own fans and sometimes teammates.

Everything seemed to be fixed this season, with a return to the All-Star Game and the Knicks back in the Top 5 in the East. Except that New York has just lost three games in a row, and that Julius Randle seems on edge.

After his 57-point match against Wolves, he has just followed up with two complicated matches in Florida, against the Heat (15 points at 7/16 in shooting) and therefore at the Magic (23 points at 7/20). Above all, last night, he “shown off” just before half-time, attacking the referees… then Immanuel Quickley, who was trying to calm him down.

“It’s just that right now our team is not on its plate. That’s why you have to stick together when you’re going through difficult times.”, explained Tom Thibodeau. “You have to stick together when you go through difficult times. That’s why we have to do everything much better. And we have to commit to doing it as a team. There will be ups and downs, which we will have to overcome. This is the case for everyone. And we can’t lose sight of what we’re trying to accomplish. »

“Honestly, we’re all just trying to win. It was in the heat of the moment. Nothing more. That’s all I can say. It happens. It’s part of the sport, part of what it takes to be a professional athlete.”

“It’s frustrating. Everyone… we fight. We want to make the playoffs”continued RJ Barrett, horribly clumsy on his side with 10 points at 3/12 shooting against Orlando. “When you lose, especially right now, every defeat means a lot. We try, but sometimes it happens.

Julius Randle did not wish to speak to the press but Immanuel Quickley was not too disturbed. The substitute is used to bloodshed from his teammate.

“Honestly, we’re all just trying to win. It was in the heat of the moment. Nothing more. That’s all I can say. It happens. It’s part of the sport, part of what it takes to be a professional athlete. »

Athletes can be overwhelmed by their emotions, and Tom Thibodeau is not worried about it.

“There is emotion in play, even if we would like to eliminate it. And then sometimes, when we talk about it, it clarifies things. Idiosyncrasies (the expression of individual character) should be allowed, as long as they don’t get in the way of victory. Nothing should stand in the way of victory and the team should always come first” he concluded.
