Phoenix was overtaken by Portland on the Ishmail Wainright file. As the regular season resumed, the Suns were forced to cut the 3/4 position in order to fall below the limit of 15 guaranteed contracts authorized in their workforce.
While Frank Vogel had declared that Phoenix was very keen on him, the idea was to bring him back a few days later via a “two-way contract”. But as it is not possible to convert a classic contract into a “two-way contract”, it was necessary to go through this dangerous step.
A boon for the Blazers, who therefore took advantage of the auction phase which follows the release of a player to get their hands on Ishmail Wainright (1m96, 29 years old). To achieve its goals, the Oregon franchise notably thanked Kevin Knox, a player with a similar profile who had been invited to the team’s “training camp”.
