Pistons hope to see Jaden Ivey back this season

The slow motion was pretty terrible and you could clearly imagine the worst. Eventually, Jaden Ivey “only” escaped with a fractured fibula. His tibia is intact, his ligaments and tendons unharmed. Good news therefore, with an update which will be made again in a month.

“I'm not a doctor but, at first, given the images, you don't know. We withhold our judgment until we know much more”, explain JB Bickerstaff after back surgery and adds he and his players hope “that he can come back this season”.

How does Jaden Ivey feel after being on the pool table and with the prospect of perhaps returning in a few weeks?

“We go through several things, the operation, the pain etc. His state of mind is good”continues the Pistons coach. “He remains positive about how to use this experience to become even better, even stronger. It's hard and the road won't be easy on a human level, as a teammate since we feel like we're missing out on things. But the guys love him very much, showed him love and support. Knowing him, no one is going to work harder. »

While waiting to know if he will be able to reunite with his teammates, in February or March for example, the Pistons will have to do without their starting guard, who averages 17.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4 assists in 2024/25.

“There is no expectation that a single player will be able to fill the void left by Ivey. It will be up to everyone to do a little more, to play to their strengths,” warns JB Bickerstaff. “They know what is expected of them: to fight and try to win as many matches as possible. »
