Time has stopped for Paul George a week ago, when he found himself on the ground after a knee-to-knee collision with Luguentz Dort. The player who has already experienced serious injuries in the past felt that his season had just changed again and that he was going to have to go through rehabilitation again for at least a few months.
More fear than harm in the end since it was a “simple” sprained knee that he was diagnosed with, and he should be able to recover for the start of the playoffs if all goes well. In his podcast, Paul George returned to the moment he found himself on the ground, believing that everything had just changed.
“It was like when you close your eyes and think, ‘Damn, when is this going to stop? “. The only thing that came to mind was that I hoped I didn’t get a big injury. I thought to myself: “Damn, it’s over, this is what it feels like to tear your anterior cruciate ligament or posterior cruciate ligament, this is that kind of injury”, did he declare.
Thorough rehabilitation
Worry took over until he found himself in the locker room and found that the injury didn’t seem as bad as he thought.
” It was crazy. I couldn’t walk. But when I got back into the locker room, I felt the pain lessening, so I was like, ‘Oh, maybe it’s not that bad’.”he added. “To be honest, I don’t know what the timetable is for my return. I will do everything in my power to shorten the return process”.
Paul George also recounted the mentality with which he approaches his rehabilitation, ensuring that he put all his mental strength into it as Kobe Bryant had advised him to do in the summer of 2014, when he suffered a double open tibia-fibula fracture.
“Kobe was my mentor when I broke my leg. Throughout this process, he told me: “Attack rehabilitation as if you were training, as if you were doing bodybuilding, that’s how you have to attack rehabilitation”. That’s how I see things. Every time I get hurt, I’m like, ‘Okay, bim, what do I do? Let’s go. I’m going to do everything I can to give myself the best chance.
It remains to hope for him that the Clippers manage to keep their place in the top 6 in the West, which is still far from over!
