Patrick Beverley: “Many NBA superstars are afraid of coaches”

The NBA lost one of its big mouths this summer since Patrick Beverley has packed his bags for Israel, where he will play for Hapoel Tel Aviv. The former Bucks and Bulls point guard will of course keep an eye on the NBA, and we can count on him to publish episodes of his Pat Bev Podcast. Especially since he will have more free time than in the NBA.

This week, he discussed the relationship between NBA superstars and coaches, and without giving an example, he assures that NBA stars do not want to be led by a famous coach. “Many NBA superstars are afraid of coaches. Some don't even want to be coached” he explains. “If you’re a successful NBA coach and you take over a team with players who have never had success, the star players don’t want you. After all, the coach has accomplished something in his career, and the players haven’t accomplished anything. I’m sure some of you are wondering, ‘Why doesn’t such a successful coach take over this team? It’s because these losers are afraid of the coaches and don’t want them on the team.’”

Unlike his former NBA colleagues, this same Beverley has resumed training with his new team, and he shared his first impressions. “The training camp in Bulgaria was tough, very tough, but we had fun”, Beverley assures. “We played against each other a lot, but the most important thing is that we had the opportunity to get to know each other. Foreigners and Israelis were able to meet, we were able to learn from each other, and I think that's the most important thing in basketball: cohesion.”
