For only the third time in history, a regular season match is being held in France, more precisely at the Accor Arena in Paris. This year, they are Riders and the Nets who were chosen by the NBA to make it shine on the European continent but Brooklyn rather did the opposite, and Cleveland calmly mastered the meeting (111-102).
A match which starts timidly, especially on the Nets side, where clumsiness is present. On the Cavs side, Donovan Mitchell is aggressive and already untenable in fast play, just to put his team on the right track (16-4). The entrance to the twirler Cam Thomas brings dynamism and is good for Brooklynsomewhat balancing the debates, despite a gap still around ten points (26-16).
No more suspense or rhythm in the second quarter, while Caris LeVert increases the Cavaliers' lead with 3-pointers and shots. Donovan Mitchell takes over when he comes back from the bench and Lonnie Walker tries, as best he can, to reduce the gap, but the Nets remain too weak (45-29). Proof that the public is just waiting to thrill: the best moment of this first period, one-sided (54-34), takes place when Ronaldo and David Beckham appear on the giant screen…
Donovan Mitchell sets Accor Arena on fire
Returning from the locker room, the Nets are still not there and the Cavaliers do not have to force too much in order to remain comfortably in control, thanks to Donovan Mitchell, Jarrett Allen And Isaac Okoro. The intensity is at its lowest, the public is extinguished and the gap is not coming down in any way, despite Mikal Bridges or Cam Thomas. The smell of “blowout” is felt, which pushes Brooklyn to use the… “hack-a-Thompson”! Without success, however, while Cleveland manages its advantage (78-60), while Lonnie Walker IV then Bridges slams two dunks to wake up the crowd.
The meeting finally comes to life when Tristan Thompson and Nic Claxton clash, after a run of the Nets. Result: an expulsion for Thompson and a technical for Claxton. Enough to indirectly wake up the Cavaliers, and in particular Donovan Mitchell who is getting back on track, while the gap had returned to around ten. However, Brooklyn does not give up with its trio Bridges – Thomas – Walker IV and the public begins to dream of a fiery “money time” (94-87)…
The problem for the Nets is that Donovan Mitchell is just elusive on the Cavs side, receiving added help from Caris LeVert, and he therefore does not miss the opportunity to complete his offensive card (45 points!) a great success. Cleveland logically wins, and for the fourth time in a row, while Brooklyn continues to disappoint collectively (seven defeats in eight games).
WHAT YOU MUST REMEMBER
– Donovan Mitchell, King of France. Awarded with the “MVP!” MVP! » from the Accor Arena, “Spida” weaved its web around this match and won a beautiful place in the hearts of French fans. Unlike the Nets, he did not disappoint this evening, to establish the new record for scoring in a Paris Game. Untenable from start to finish, he carried the Cavaliers on his shoulders whenever necessary, bringing the New York defense down thanks to his varied offensive range (despite 7 lost balls). A contagious activity, for a high-level performance in the capital. The spectators thank him!
– Brooklyn disappointed. The Paris Game 2024 edition was generally suspenseful, because there was almost no suspense. The fault, in large part, lies with the Nets who needed almost… three quarters to find their rhythm in attack and stop being clumsy when shooting or with the ball. Regrettable, because the French public did not have that many opportunities to get excited, apart from the arabesques of Donovan Mitchell, and even though they were very demanding. Hoping that the next (or maybe even the next) match in France will be more successful in content…
