There will perhaps be not one but two French G-League champions. Ousmane Dieng and Olivier Sarr qualified for the final, with the Oklahoma City Blue. The Thunder-affiliated franchise dominated the Stockton Kings (114-107) Sunday in the Western Conference final of the playoffs. Dieng and Sarr will face the Maine Celtics, who stifled the Long Island Nets in the East (99-77).
Against former NBA players like Stanley Johnson, Skal Labissiere or Shabazz Muhammad (who did not come into play), and coach of the year Lindsey Harding, the OKC Frenchies were the starters in the paint.
From the very great Dieng
Olivier Sarr was hampered by fouls and did not weigh as much as in recent weeks, while he remained on a big double-double in 20 points, 11 rebounds with five blocks in the conference semi-final. Out for six fouls, Sarr finished with 4 points at 2/6, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 interceptions and 3 blocks.
The figures are more impressive for Ousmane Dieng, very good Sunday. Present in all sectors of the game, the 11th choice of the 2022 draft notably actively contributed to the second quarter of the Blue, which turned the match around by passing a 42-18 to the Kings. With 23 points on 9/16 shooting, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 interceptions, Dieng made a strong impression!
The two Habs could succeed Sekou Doumbouya, winner last year of the G-League with the Delaware Blue Coats. Axel Toupane was also part of the Toronto 905 squad, champion in 2017, but he did not participate in the playoffs, being called up by the Pelicans to finish the season. The final will be played in the best of three matches from Tuesday, match 2 on Thursday April 11, then a nice decisive one in a week, on Monday April 15.
