Otto Porter Jr. announces his retirement

Surprise announcement from Otto Porter Jr. who, a few hours after being cut by Utah (with whom he did not reach an agreement for a “buyout” after the trade deadline), chose to retire at only 30 years old.

On the official website of Jazzwhere he arrived this winter from the Raptors, the winger justifies himself: “ Over the past eleven years, I have had the chance to live my lifelong dream of playing in the NBA. This dream was even crowned by an NBA title! Unfortunately, my body no longer allows me to play at the level I expect of myself and I have therefore decided to retire. »

A ring and a lot of money

Third choice in the 2013 Draft, behind Anthony Bennett and Victor Oladipo, Otto Porter Jr. averaged 10.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 527 games, shooting 48% (including 40% from 3-point range) and 80%. on free throws. In his best years (2016-2019), he was one of the most prized “3&Ds” at his position, which led to him receiving a $106.5 million offer from the Nets in the summer of 2017, before the Wizards don't align with it.

In addition to Washington and Toronto, the former Georgetown resident has also visited Chicago, Orlando and especially Golden State. The Warriors, a team with which he experienced the collective peak of his career in 2021/22, winning the NBA title, while playing a valuable role in the Californian coronation.

Unfortunately, after relaunching brilliantly in San Francisco, Otto Porter Jr. was once again weighed down by his physique. The recurring problem of his time in the league, lasting almost eleven years, since he was too often cut short by repeated injuries. Injuries which ultimately led him to retire very early from the courts, with a ring and more than $134 million in career earnings.
