Onyeka Okongwu finally absent until further notice

Cold shower in Atlanta, where Quin Snyder had to announce the packageOnyeka Okongwu yesterday, at the end of training preparing for the Hawks' resumption match against Toronto this evening. His absence following a sprained left toe had been estimated at 7 to 10 days before the All-Star Break, and his return was therefore expected this week.

This will not happen, and for the moment, the medical staff of the Georgia franchise does not seem to have a precise idea of the duration of his unavailability. In any case, it is a big blow for the interior who had shown great performance before getting injured, and had notably been able to compensate for the absence of Clint Capela, injured in the left adductor.

“He’s not going to be available for a while.”, the Atlanta coach simply declared. “Even before Clint got hurt, you could see his progress. “He’s improving in a lot of areas and some of the things he’s doing that he’s doing well are giving us another dimension on both ends of the floor.”

While Clint Capela could return with limited playing time to start, it will be up to Bruno Fernando to be ready. Hoping that Onyeka Okongwu can return to action before the end of the season…

“Bruno is someone who had to take over in Clint’s absence. We're going to have Clint back, but since he hasn't played in several weeks, I'm sure he's going to be on minutes restrictions. These are things that we will have to continue to work on”concluded Quin Snyder.
