On the knees, the Nets continue their obstacle course

The Nets are very happy to return to Brooklyn this Wednesday evening. Because they have just traveled to five different cities in just eight days, with five away matches: in Sacramento, Phoenix, Denver, San Francisco and Salt Lake City.

An exhausting journey, concluded with four setbacks. Especially for a diminished team, due to the absences of Ben Simmons, Lonnie Walker IV and Dennis Smith Jr.

“I think they gave everything they could during these trips,” believes Jacque Vaughn for the New York Post when talking about his players. “I hope that when we return home, we will have the injured return to help us. We unfortunately exhausted some of our players at the start of the season. We played against some big teams during this road trip and this last match added to the score. »

Nine matches in two weeks…

Except that this return home does not mean rest. After the match against New York, we will have to continue with a “back-to-back” against Denver and Detroit, Friday and Saturday. Then another after Christmas, on December 26 and 27, against Detroit and Milwaukee. That's four matches in six days.

” And it does not stop there. We have three “back-to-backs” to play in two weeks,” announces the coach, who does not forget that of January 2 and 3, 2024 against the Pelicans and the Rockets. “How are we going to handle this? The lessons to learn are to take care of your body to be able to play, to contribute every minute. »

The Nets therefore have nine matches (New York, three “back-to-back” and matches against Oklahoma City and Washington) to play in the next fortnight. It's a lot, especially for a very tired team.

“There is also the implication”, continues Jacque Vaughn. “I’m going to continue to preach the physical side. There is a toughness that we must rely on, in different areas. It's the pick-and-roll, the rebound, not giving up an offensive rebound, running to defend on a 3-point basket in the corner. »
