OG Anunoby becomes free agent

The Knicks have their work cut out for them. By recovering OG Anunoby At the very end of 2023, the Knicks knew they would have to manage his contractual situation this summer. And this will indeed be the case since the winger had a “player option”, which he decided not to use.

The former Raptors player therefore becomes a “free agent” by putting aside his additional year at $19.9 million for next season, OG Anunoby hoping to explode his salary.

However, even if they did not manage to agree on a contract extension in advance, it nonetheless remains a priority for the Knicks in the offseason. The Knicks still sent RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley and a second round of Draft to the Raptors to bring him.

The Sixers in ambush?

It must also be said that in the regular season, OG Anunoby only lost 3 of the 23 matches with New York, while his versatility in defense and his shooting skills were valuable (39.4% success at 3-points with the Knicks).

Until his injury in the playoffs, OG Anunoby showed everything he could bring to Tom Thibodeau's squad. Particularly in the first round where he gave the Sixers a hard time by defending both Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris. In the event of a blockage over the duration and/or the amount with the Knicks, the Sixers could also be in ambush, they who are coached by Nick Nurse, who managed OG Anunoby when he was in Toronto and who is undoubtedly dreaming to recover the 26-year-old “3&D” winger.

The Knicks will in any case have other matters to manage this summer. There is also the case of Isaiah Hartenstein who will be a “free agent” and who could at least double, or even triple, his contract of 8 million per season.
