As is often the case, there were still a few details to sort out between Guershon Yabusele and Real Madrid before making his departure official, and it's done. In a press releasethe Madrid club writes that both parties have agreed to terminate the player's contract: “Real Madrid wants to express its gratitude and affection for the three seasons in which you have defended our shirt, with which you have won 7 titles: 1 European Cup, 2 Leagues, 1 Copa del Rey and 3 Spanish Super Cups.”
Even if Real does not name his new team, we have known for about ten days that the Frenchman will land at the Sixers. Silver medalist at the Paris Olympics, Yabusele will commit to a season at minimum wage, and this choice will cost him dearly since he is the one who will pay two-thirds of his exit clause from Real Madrid, estimated at 2.5 million dollars.
Mathematically, the French winger will therefore contribute $1.650 million to play for the Sixers, while his franchise will pay $850,000. This is the maximum that an NBA franchise can pay.
There are no more French players at Real Madrid
“It's now up to Guerschon to show that he can get a bigger contract next season. It's a sporting choice, not a financial one,” warned his agent Olivier Mazet. “With what he's shown in recent years in the Euroleague and at the Olympics, he's at his highest rating on the European market. If things go badly in the NBA, he won't suffer a devaluation in Europe, quite the contrary.”
Note that there are no more French players at Real after the officialization of Yabusele's departure since Fabien Causeur joined Olimpia Milan, and Vincent Poirier left for Anadolu Efes.
