Official: Frédéric Fauthoux succeeds Vincent Collet at the head of the Blues

It was an open secret and the French Basketball Federation therefore made official the arrival of Frederic Fauthoux at the head of the French men's 5×5 team.

The former Pau-Orthez playmaker, seven times French champion as a player (1992, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2003 and 2004) with his only club and bronze medalist with the French team at EuroBasket 2005, takes over from Vincent Collet at the age of 51. Close to Boris Diaw and Frédéric Sarre, the managers of the Blues, the Landais converted to coaching as soon as his career as a player ended, in 2012.

French N3 champion, with Pau-Nord-Est, he later became assistant to the U16s, who won Euro 2014. Appointed right-hand man of Antoine Rigaudeau at Levallois in 2015, he took over the management of the team when “The King” resigned a few months later. He stayed there for five years, before Boris Diaw left the presidency.

Having become an assistant again at TJ Parker's Asvel, he won two French championship titles there, in 2021 and 2022, before becoming “head coach” again, this time at Bourg-en-Bresse.

Jean-Aimé Toupane extends with the Blues

With the “JL”, he has had two great seasons. Even without a title, the club has still reached the semi-final of the Betclic Elite, the Leaders Cup final and the EuroCup final twice in a row.

During his various stints on the benches, he was able to rub shoulders with quite a few internationals, and in particular the expected executives of the new generation, in particular Victor Wembanyama And Zaccharie Risacher.

It remained to be seen who would make up his staff. And according to the latest reportsIt is Laurent Vilathe Strasbourg coach, who will be Frédéric Fauthoux’s right-hand man with the Blues. Kenny Atkinsonthe Cavaliers coach should also be present for the major competitions.

Joseph Gomis And Bryan George would be promoted, while the first was previously in charge of working with the players, and the second of video analysis.

For the French Women's 5×5 Team, there is no suspense there either since after the beautiful silver medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Jean-Aimé Toupane East extended at the head of the selection. On the other hand, he lost his first assistant, Cathy Melain, a valuable support to the players.
