“Addition by subtraction. » That's what he said Norman Powell when commenting on Paul George's departure from the Clippers during the summer. And even if the full-back/winger has been in the infirmary for five games, we understand better why when he has regained a starting place… and he is the offensive leader of the team!
While waiting for the return to business of Kawhi Leonard, it is in fact the former Raptors and Blazers who is the best scorer of Tyronn Lue's troop, which currently occupies a good 6th place in the Western conference, with 12 victories for 8 defeats. What to dream of the All-Star Game.
“It’s something that I saw myself doing, that I imagined and that I imagined myself to be”, he responds like this. “And not just once, but many times. This goal has never changed. No matter how much I want to win, I have my own individual goals that I want to accomplish. That would be extraordinary. I imagine it, just like DeMar (DeRozan) and Kyle (Lowry) were All-Stars in Toronto, at the Air Canada Centre, but to be in the Intuit Dome and see my name called, it would be a dream come true . »
A tenfold influence
This year, the All-Star Game will take place at the Chase Center in San Francisco, the home of the Warriors, but next year, it is the new Clippers hall which will be the scene of the event.
At 31, can Norman Powell become an All-Star? This will depend on his ability to remain efficient and effective in his role as a full-time starter, the return of Kawhi Leonard but also the performance of the Clippers. But James Harden also notes that his teammate has never been such a passer, and that that increases his influence tenfold.
“He’s scoring at a high volume and he’s a lot more confident in what he’s doing.”explains the former MVP. “And he doesn't just score, because when he gets in the paint, he sees where the help is coming from. Because they're trying to double down on him now. So now he makes the extra pass, he creates openings for others. Everyone gets shots. And that comes with repetition. When we have the opportunity, we can put things in place. And when you score effectively, defenses have to give you different defensive coverages. So he sees different defenses and he does the right things.”
